‘’2014…IT’S A WRAP’’

A quick 2014 Geezer recap… alright, maybe not so quick.

The 2014 season brought some great memories and it was fun to report all the exciting news from fellow racers, and sponsors throughout the season. Always nice hearing back with all the funny remarks after a Gazette goes out, thanks. 2014 brought a huge learning curve and was surely a inviting challenge to the ol Geezer…but first and foremost, a huge thanks to T&W Racing for the opportunity to drive for them and learn from one of the best team mates any late model driver could ever have, Mr. Randy Stout. Joining the team in late November allowed tons of hours in the T&W garage over the winter where plenty happened. From the rebuilding/learning of the late model set ups to the numerous preseason announcements / team fund raisers and sponsor opportunities was fun. Taylor and Wanda ( T&W) were a treat to work with while as we were always promoting our sponsors and announcing plans that were made public through venues such as TV (BCTV and RCNTV) and live radio interviews (RRT, LD&D). Brian Hirthler at 4 Star Lettering did a nice layout on the #22 car that always looked good for our sponsors and fans thanks in part to the neat design by Taylor and Wanda. Throughout the entire season we made it a priority to promote heavily ‘however we could’ including media outlets such as live interviews during meet and greets, numerous program ads weekly, we attended a handful of car shows, both cars were displayed at sponsors businesses, face book ticket giveaways, a cool ‘’guess the Geezer’s finish’’ 2 ticket game done by Keith Gerhart on July 3rd just to name a few. The team beef and beer fund raiser in February was a huge hit, where we did helmet autographs and had tons of giveaways… thanks to our team sponsors and families who made delicious homemade treats galore, and all of this while meeting tons of new race fans. What a fun night, thanks Amy Knappenburger for the custom bleacher pads!! Plans are already in motion for a bigger venue for 2015 beef and beer. Visiting victory lane 6 times (with team mate Randy) was always special for the entire team and any sponsors who were in attendance. T &W Racing held a team appreciation cook out after a race in June with 31 new York strips supplied by Burt’s Farms that were delicious!! The annual team/sponsor/ family appreciation party in mid August was a blast and these were just a few ways T&W said ‘’Thanks’’ to everyone involved. Progress came slow but sure on the track for ol Geezer as we worked side by side with the entire #10 team and managed to finish strong with a handful of top 5’s and a few top tens after a rather rough start. By season’s end we proudly finished top ten in points with the #22 which made all the hours worthwhile.

Fans and friends who helped make this season special include (in no particular order) Ernie Saxton, Jeff Alhum, Mike Feltenburger, Randy Kane, Barry Angstadt, Dave Conard, Tammy Auman, Jeff Calpino, Chris Budihas, Blake, Bruce Thomas, Keith Gerhart, Harry Gallagher, Steve Sabo & Pops, Jennifer and Scott Guistwite, Jennifer Whitenight and Jordan, Tina Rogers, all Grandview officials, track crew and workers, Cathy Green (and her team for lending a shock one night!), Debbie Dutter, Dawn Watt, Amy Higginbotham, Kelly Haas, Kylie Sophia, Joe Adams, Scott Diehl, Eric Whitby, Whippy, George and Ken Loux, my family and pit neighbor ‘Fritzy’. Thanks ‘’Blake’’ for a very fun Friday night in August, hope to do it again but maybe without the town parade !!

SPECIAL THANKS TO THE DEDICATED CREW, THEIR FAMILIES AND ALL OF OUR HELPERS:

Bob, JD , Al, Taylor, Wanda, Mary, Richie, Artie, Dreamboat, Junior, Colton, Hans, Mikey, Larry, Niklas, T-Mac, Jason, Robbie, Laurie, and the #00 Mertz Racing team for help days and nights all summer and during a few pit stops for flats in the heat of battle. Babysitters for Donkey this season were Patrick and Adam Auman who watched over Donkey all season and still have him! The turn four gang of Alex, Matt and Steve Bartorillo, Ralph and Coach Pete sure kept it fun all year with banners and signs and weekly waves and goodies! Some fond lifelong memories like racing side by side with Randy, Ron, Chuck, Sean, Lou, Wayne, Dan and others was a dream and made possible by T&W Racing! Jim Berheisel and the BRC business made a huge improvement as title sponsors for the late models and I hope they continue!! Special fun times : receiving fries and a ‘sidebite’ cupcake from Barry Angstadt, seeing Ernie Saxton again, numerous cookouts, filming car owner Wanda doing the ice bucket challenge but forgetting to hit the record button and of course the classic ‘security breach’’ by Kistler, Reigel/Fanelli during an event just to name a few… oh, and an unforgettable highlight during the one and only night off this summer was joining the #25X Dan Lane racing team at Lanco Speedway and witnessing Dan Jr.’ first ever feature win in the 270 micros which was awesome as he went on to his best finish in points at 6th. Congrats also to Sean Weiss on finishing 18th in his second season in the Sportsman division… they really are getting hooked up and I look forward to bigger and better finishes for them next season. Abbey Price finished 8th in the touring 600 Modifieds which is her best ever, great job 9A team!! Jordan Umbenhauer finished 10th in the Grandview Modifieds, which is quite the feat. CONGRATS ALL ON A JOB WELL DONE!! Thanks also to those who supplied news for the Gazette through 2014. The recent ride October 18th at Grandview for the Thunder on The Hill Show in the #45X Legend car was fun, so a sincere thanks Andrew Whaling for the opportunity… as someone said: ‘’it will look good on your resume’’, Hahahaha.

IN CLOSING:

After starting this ‘’wrap up’’ it quickly became evident how fortunate I was to be involved with sooooo many great people ‘again’ that have helped make the year fun and that I’m sure to have inadvertently miss a few (sorry) but to add to the above, thanks also to: the Knappenburger’s, Whitenight family, Auman’s, the Lane’s, the Weiss’s, the Reimert’s, ’’Jake’’ from State farm and Cathy, Ken and George Loux, The King Mr. Harry Gallagher, he taught me how to have fun ‘’no matter what’’, and the little ‘’G’’ prank at the track was a classic that was pulled off amazingly by the Low Down and Dirty gang.

NEWSFLASH: Now is the time to let me know if you are ready to ‘’opt out’’ of receiving the Gazette, simply reply to this and send me $500 cash immediately and you will be off the list. I am proud to announce I’ve had zero response to people wanting off, is the Gazette really that good? BWAHAHAHAHA ;)

This season was made possible by Taylor, Wanda and Charles along with the following team sponsors for 2014, without them we couldn’t have survived all season, please patronize the following fine folks and

 THANKS AGAIN!!

J&H AUTOMOTIVE AND CUSTOM EXHAUST – HOLLENSHEAD AUTO SALES – DELAWARE VALLEY ALUMINUM CORPORATION – KEYSTONE AIR – BLUE BELL HVAC – EXTON BEVERAGE – STANDEN COLLISION – HOSENSACK POKER CLUB – ARTHUR SMITH LANDSCAPING – ROMEO’S CANDIES – BURTS FARMS – NICK & PAT’S – A - Z FURNITURE – ROYER’S DISCOUNT FLOORING – PREMIER CONSTRUCTION – JUNIOR’S GARAGE - SLOW BURN.

NEXT UP?

Celebration time!! Last Saturday’s racer’s flea market was a success so that closes the track until spring… Tomorrow, November 15th the entire T&W Racing team will enjoy the Grandview Speedway NASCAR banquet held at the Gilbertsville Fire Hall where many Grandview teams will enjoy a night of dinner/drinks/dancing and awards. Champions for 2014 at Grandview are Randy in the BRC Late Models, Jeff Strunk in the Modifieds, and Jared Umbenhauer in the Sportsman. Congrats to each team on their success! For Ernie: I even decided to break down and buy a new suit for the occasion since old friend Ernie Saxton said to ALWAYS represent yourself, your sponsors and your team professionally… I’ve been working at that Sir.

Rebuilding cars and resigning sponsors has already begun, contact Geezer at 2geezer2@gmail.com to find out how to become a part of the exciting T&W Racing team next year or to renew quickly to get prime real estate on the cars!!

TEAM NEWS:

Congrats to team mate Randy Stout on his recent decision to retire the helmet… Randy finished on top as 2014 Grandview Late Model champ and has set the win record at Grandview with 63. 3 championships and over 68 feature wins is a heck of a career, Randy wants more time to do ‘’what he wants’’… which now includes helping on the #22 car , Thanks Randy !! A recent team meeting has Geezer returning in the seat of the #22 late model for one more season, and a sincere thanks to T&W for the opportunity and the confidence to have me back. Dave Ogin has recently worked things out with the owners to be a team mate to Geezer for 2015 and everyone is excited to get things started. When the date is set for a beef and beer, a note will be sent out.

As always, be safe and have fun, The GEEZER
